All well and good until the bankers decided to play poker with the countries finances and lost. What this clearly showed (apart from the fact that the regulators and the Govt gave the bankers free rein), was that UK PLC had been living beyond its means for years. Now who pays? Why the taxpayer of course, both literally in terms of financial support the banks, and now with the biggest cut backs in public services ever seen in this country.
To me, Camerons much lauded Big Society increasingly looks like a poor attempt at social engineering to mask what the tories always do in power - roll back the state. Remember Thatcher in the 1980's - there is no such thing as society?.... and we all know where that led us. More social deprivation leading to more violence, crime, drugs etc etc.
So, what am I trying to say? Simply this. Its about time politicians got on with what they are elected to do and improve the quality of life for the people of this country. Grow the economy away from its current addiction to financial services and property - i.e LETS START MAKING STUFF OTHER PEOPLE WANT TO BUY.
Stop wrecking the social fabric of the country by engaging in a cost cutting exercise that is only designed to keep the same set of people happy who lets not forget, helped to create this mess in the first place.
If the current set of millionaires sitting around the cabinet table are unable or unwilling to do this then lets elect people who will. Read less
