The government do listen to young people however like the above comments suggests, implementation is a different ball game all together. It seems the government go ahead with whatever decisions they have made up thier minds to implement. The tuition fees increase is a perfect example.

I agree with Onyere Kene completely. The Government just talk to young people to tick a box and then act out the policy they wanted not the one young people ask for or the changes the young people wanted in the policy in the first place.

For over 2000 years now the governors have not listened to the children. Lets not kid ourselves here, they don't care about any of us. They, like some of the FAKE people using this site, only care about money.

I don't think it's about money. I think it is about that they treat young people like me and many others as people who's comment are wrong or too far fetched for something that could be implemented into a credible policy.

I think it often depends on the department, I also think people are right about it being listening, but not necessarily following what we say, but I don't think that just applies to youth consultations, but to all age groups.

For example the people they take the most notice of have connections, money and power in industry and young people are less likely to have that...

The Big Society is surely Camerons way of carrying on what his predecessors started in following a neo -liberal ideology. It is this theory of hollowing out the state. Where before public services were offered by a large public workforce, we now have private companies fulfilling public service tasks (e.g. PPI School building and management, PPI hospitals etc, public waste disposal by private companies... Read more

The Electoral Commission's research indicates 56% of young people eligible to vote are not registered to do so.

With two days left to register to vote on the upcoming referendum, we want to know: Do you vote?

Please let us know any other thoughts you have on voting in the comments box below!

My polling station is at our local pub so it's a nice excuse to head down with a bunch of neighbours and bond over a little community spirit! Wouldn't say that voting particularly whet any of our whistles though....

I have voted since I was 18, but for no reason really; I don't believe it will make any difference, or that I'll be letting anyone down if I don't, and I don't think I've ever thought any of the candidates would be any good. The AV referendum might be more interesting.

I truly believe that even though I vote, politicians are not interesting in representing either me or the majority of young voters. I hope that AV will give as an opportunity to be listened to.

Thanks Kenny - a fantastic documentary. The team at KIC FM have achieved a lot since 1999 and this really makes it clear how much .

I have been thinking lately, having seen the views raised on huge forums where people are complaining about the big society, complaining about the politicians saying they are rubbish. And generally slagging them of for what they do for our country!!! I love juxtaposing this image with the international problems faced in Libya, Egypt where people are fighting their rights which we basically take... Read more

    Hi Karim

For me, and certainly a lot of people I come across, it's a trust issue. Politicians saying they're going to do one thing, get elected, and not doing it.

You feel betrayed, this is why, for me, I have very little confidence in the Government.

I used to have a lot of confience towards the Government, and have supported a lot of ideas, however, currently, I feel let down.

I agree with you on this issue, I am a young person and will be affected by the university fees decisions. I think we have to put this debate in context. Firstly, what you were saying about restricting young people's futures, don't you think what the gov't is doing is better?! University is as excessively opening up to the world as much as our immigration policies. University should have students... Read more

I have massive respect for Libyan / Egyptian civilians fighting for what they believe in, and in the case of Egypt their protest worked.

Can I ask what the issue is that you think the Government is doing that is better?

RE Uni - I feel for the current generation. I like to think I'm still 'young.' I'm 23, and have completed university with the degree I wanted. I have around 13k debt and I'm am... Read more

Kenny- I completely understand. I actually had the same views as you before, but somehow the things that are happening in the Middle East has really opened my eyes to how much we take for granted. But we'll agree to disagree! ha!

Congratulations to Foodcycle for winning the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award… The government has recognised a fantastic project, but some of their volunteers were reluctant to accept due to funding cuts and aligning the charity with a political party. Foodcycle have written a really interesting blog on whether the charity should accept the award or not. What do you think?

I love that they're taking a vote on it. Big Society or not, a charity that genuinely cares what its supporters think about things and acts according to what they say deserves to do well, whatever the political rhetoric.

Yesterday, Education Secretary Michael Gove announced plans to give bursaries from the dramatically reduced budget of £180million to the countries most vulnerable 16- 19 year olds.

With Education Maintenance Allowance cut do you think giving larger bursaries to those more in need makes sense?

Smaller weekly grants for 650,000 young people or helping those most in need by offering larger bursaries... Read more

Hello again,

We have also heard about the Notorious traveller site "Dale Farm" I think when we speak about big society and people sticking together for the common good this stands out, we have seen a community be told they will be evicted, they have residents that are ill and have nowhere but this place, the people who live there send kids to local schools and are settled.

The council (Tory... Read more

I am currently working on a brief to get young people involved with politics and give them their say on policies that effect them. I want to create an environment where politicians can listen to what the youth of today think and get their voices heard. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of anywhere that has done this before? Any help would be great! Thank you.
