It’s time to say Yes to fairer votes
The decisions made by politicians affect all of our lives, from where the cuts to our public services fall to the stability of the job market. Currently under First-Past-the-Post, MPs can get elected with less than 30% of our votes and at present two out three MPs in the UK don't have the majority of voters on their side. Quite simply this means most of us have... Read more
Vote Yes to AV on 5 May. Join the campaign to make MPs
work harder, give voters more of a say and to tackle the 'jobs for life'
culture in Parliament.

The Electoral Commission's research indicates 56% of young people eligible to vote are not registered to do so.
With two days left to register to vote on the upcoming referendum, we want to know: Do you vote?
Please let us know any other thoughts you have on voting in the comments box below!

My polling station is at our local pub so it's a nice excuse to head down with a bunch of neighbours and bond over a little community spirit! Wouldn't say that voting particularly whet any of our whistles though....

I have voted since I was 18, but for no reason really; I don't believe it will make any difference, or that I'll be letting anyone down if I don't, and I don't think I've ever thought any of the candidates would be any good. The AV referendum might be more interesting.
Emma Croft
I truly believe that even though I vote, politicians are not interesting in representing either me or the majority of young voters. I hope that AV will give as an opportunity to be listened to.

I am tremendously disappointed at the result regarding the Alternative Vote. The No campaign engaged in shameful misinformation tactics - including the use of emotional blackmail (This baby needs intensive care units, NOT AV). Furthermore both sides played fast and loose with the facts, without focusing purely on the issue at hand. I also feel there was a large underestimation of the intelligence... Read more

Thanks Emma - great points. What does everyone think? Our poll pre the day was the reverse of what the results were predicted to be. Do you think the outcome was a fair reflection of young people's opinions? Did you vote?
Sam Mason
I think the result was a fair reflection of young people's opinions. generally though, the campaign for both YES and NO to AV didn't go down too well. people either confused about what they were voting for or not satisfied with either option.

I think it was more of a referendum on Nick Clegg and his party than the voting systen.
I can't say I have strong views either way on the alternative vote system (sorry, is that bad?) but I think this new marketing campaign for the yes vote is in pretty poor taste.
I know people who've had babies in intensive care units - it's one of the most horrific experiences you could imagine. Using their situation for political (and totally unrelated) political gain seems a bit sick to me... Read more

I think that's pretty shocking and really bad taste. Unfortunately I think we are so desensitised to what we see in advertising and TV programs nowadays like the embarrassing bodies programme- I understand people may find these programs educational but sometimes I think it’s way too much information…why you would go on TV in front of thousands of viewers to divulge the intimate details of an illness...
